“Life is 10% of what happens to us and 90% of how we react
to it.” ~Charles Swindoll
Back in October, my dear friend Michelle of Michelle
Praskins Photography told me she likes to do a free session giveaway every
October for a family affected by childhood cancer. Her son had Leukemia as an
infant and is thriving and healthy today so she likes to give back to families
who have to face the ugly C word. I asked if I could be part as God has put it
on my heart to help these families as well. By joining forces, we were able to
bless multiple families instead of just one.
Because of our crazy holiday schedules, we did the sessions
in February. We met up with three of the chosen families at the overgrown area
we both love shooting in. It was an incredibly overcast/gray day so we even got
to shoot in the wide open field. It looked like we were in a farm in Wisconsin,
not the desert in Arizona!
I got to photograph this family while Michelle did the two
others. There is one more family who will be getting photos done at a later
date. Stay tuned.
Meet Team Bubba. Richard is only nine years old and was
diagnosed with Stage 3 Liver Cancer in September of 2013. He and his family
fought the cancer and he beat it! “You are cancer free” was spoken to him in
November. Praise God!
Our session started with the kids being rather shy and
giving me a ton of posed smiles, then we headed out into the alfalfa field
where the real fun began. Richard and his sisters danced to happy, ran (in slow
motion – which was HILARIOUS – and normal motion) at me, and Richard got to do
some modeling towards the end. I was almost in tears. What a courageous, sweet
boy with a sense of humor.
Thank you so much Team Bubba for driving all the way out to
the west valley for photos. Meeting all of you was truly an inspiration and a
joy. Lots of love,
